The fearsome skull and crossbones will be hoisted high over the Nevada desert, beginning next week, as the VF-103 Jolly Rogers arrive and begin training at the Nevada Test and Training Range. The East Coast based squadron, which flies the iconic and formidable F-14B Tomcat, is slated to arrive next week in order to conduct Combat Mission Qualifications training. “The Nevada Test and Training Range is well equipped to support this type of training due to its open terrain and many live fire ranges,” said Lt. “Duke” Harrison, the squadron’s public affairs officer. Lt. Harrison also alluded to the excitement of the squadron personnel at being temporarily stationed in the vicinity of Las Vegas, Nevada. “I’ve definitely trained in worse locations,” he said. VF-103 will be conducting training in Basic Fighter Maneuvers, or dogfighting, as well as Air to Air and Air to Ground weapons employment. Residents are encouraged to keep their eyes lifted skyward. Don’t miss your chance to catch a glimpse of these famous Tomcats during their rare appearance in the Nevada skies!
